A nickel will get you on the subway, but garlic will get you a seat. ~ Old New York Proverb
It's Saint Valentine's Weekend my friends. The very thought of it inspires me to find some expression of love for my readers and followers, to find a method of uniting the world in a bond of total harmony. When social, economic and religious ideas split apart nations, cities and families there must be a way to find some common ground --- some consensus.
At the risk of snatching the Noble Peace Prize from the current nominees or even being compared to Mahatma Gandhi or Nelson Mandela, this Valentine's Day I will advance a bold new formula for bringing peoples and nations together in common objectives. It has been said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Hold on a minute! Let's not be sexist.
Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!
Now that we have the attention of the fairer sex, we can get to the essence of my proposal. Food is humanity's expression of love. Many foods and drinks have names which imply love or sex. And the very essence of Christianity, the Eucharist, is the sharing of Christ as food for our souls.
Now, to bring my love to you, at this very moment I will share my secret recipe for “Killer Guacamole”. It will bring all peoples of the world together in peace and love – guaranteed!
You can adjust the portions of each ingredient to your own taste – more jalapeno and more onion is my taste. Coarsely mash the whole mess together and serve with your favorite taco chips and salsa on the side. Serve the guacamole with your favorite margarita or for a real treat try one or two straight shots of El Jimador golden tequila with lime wedges and a chaser of Corona* cerveza with a lime wedge.
This past autumn, Canadians went through a political campaign, and now Americans are enduring their seemingly never-ending political campaign. By its very nature politics tends to be divisive. My guacamole will unite all political parties. Canadians can enjoy it with their Conservative, NDP, Liberal and even their Bloc Quebecois friends. Americans can watch Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz join hands in love and true friendship while sharing this great recipe. If my formula doesn’t bring consensus you are with far too partisan a crowd.
*Enjoy in moderation. Tequila and cerveza in excess have been known to deepen political partisanship and create irreparable political rifts.
Peace and love,
